Some online publications like Wall Street Journal requires premium membership for their news articles. In other words, you can read their publications only if you subscribe for it. Although Wall Street Journal has some free content too but all the premium content is behind a “pay-wall” and you should be a paid subscriber to read them.
Since these sites are part of the First Click Free program, visitors coming through search engines can read the first page of the story without subscribing. [click to continue…]

The new URL shortening service Goo.gl by Google is only available for Google products for now, and it is not available for broad consumer use. However, Matt Flaschen has created a bookmarklet that you can add to your favourites bar and use it to shorten any long URL you want.
Goo.gl This Page! <— goo.gl bookmarklet
Just drop the above link into your bookmark bar and click it on the page you want its URL to be shortened with Goo.gl.
The bookmarklet will pop up the shortened URL in a toolbox that you can copy and use.
If you are using Firefox and are looking for an alternative method, then you can use this extension which shortens the URL and copies it to the clipboard automatically.

TuexDeux is a free, web based app (although they have disclosed that they might charge for the service eventually) for managing your to-do lists.

If you are a Gmail user (which you should be if not) and access your account from a browser, then you are probably sick of some clutter in your page that you never use, stuff like the invitation box, banner ads, the chat box and etc.
Minimalist Gmail is a Firefox Extension that selectively lets you hide some elements in your Gmail page that you don’t want to see. Note that it only hides the elements, so you can still use the Gmail shortcuts if you can’t live without them.
There are many Greasmonkey scripts that allow you to remove individual elements, however, this extension brings everything together and you can easily enable/disable the elements without having to deal with many scripts. [click to continue…]

It’s incredible how the mobile communication space have advanced so much recently. Basic computing and communication needs can be completely fulfilled with smart phones that were really uncommon a few years back.
If you are like me and prefer finding out about stuff yourself rather than being told by somebody else, then you will be thanking me for pointing out this iPhone app to you if you don’t know about it already.
Fluent News [iTunes link] is a free iPhone/iPod Touch app that aggregates all mobile-friendly news content from multiple sources into an extremely well organized app that is amazingly fast. Yes, I have tried many other apps but the superiority of Fluent News is in it’s incredible speed. It literally aggregates the content you want to display instantly. [click to continue…]

There is only one concern I have with Google Apps – It’s UI. It is atrocious.
That is probably the only reason why I never used Google Reader, same with Google Calendar.
Thanks to Helvetical and GreaskMonkey, now you can have a pimped Google Calendar that won’t hurt your eyes. Helvetical extends the work done by Jon Hicks on Helvetireader, turning Google Reader into something that doesn’t “offend”.
Helvetical makes your Google Calendar usable. Simple as that. [click to continue…]
